The Assessment
A new approach to mental health assessment
MHAT represents a new approach to mental health assessment that supports faster diagnosis and “time to treatment” on the front lines of medicine. It was developed by Harrison Healthcare, a leading provider of prevention-oriented primary healthcare services in Canada that is staffed and supported by thought-leading mental health professionals. It was designed as an important decision support system for physicians and mental health professionals.
MHAT is an online series of linked questionnaires requiring a digital response. These evidence-based questionnaires thoughtfully guide a patient through high-level screening questions and then into more detailed modules as indicated by their responses. Providers may also prescribe only specific modules.
Professionals are presented with results that show the “diagnostic proximity” for 14 common disorders based on symptom endorsement.
The system goes further to suggest physiological and psychiatric “rule-outs” to support a faster and more precise diagnosis. Patients are also given feedback and online access to their assessment questions and answers.
MHAT currently provides decision support for the following conditions:
- Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Agoraphobia
- Alcohol Use Disorder
- Bipolar 1 and 2 Disorders
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
- Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
- Panic Disorder
- Persistent Depressive Disorder (PDD)
- Acute and Posttraumatic Stress Disorders
- Social Anxiety Disorder
- Specific Phobia
- Substance Use Disorder
The MHAT provider report is comprehensive, indicating the proximity to a DSM-5 diagnosis based on current criteria and symptoms endorsed for each condition being examined – and the degree to which the symptoms are affecting the patient’s life. At any time, a provider may review the complete set of questions and answers submitted for greater clarity.
